What is Micro-Needling?

Updated: Dec 8, 2019

Acne is the most common skin care problem and can leave scars that can affect one’s confidence. Traditionally, scars are treated with topical creams and ointments that yield mild improvements.  With today’s technology, scars can now be treated to help restore the texture and firmness while being minimally invasive such as microneedling.

Microneedling – a minimally invasive procedure which involves using a device containing fine needles to puncture the skin.  Before the procedure, numbing cream is applied on the face to ensure the client does not experience too much pain.  The puncturing of the skin promotes the production of collagen and elastin in a controlled fashion, which in turn stimulates the skin’s natural healing process. The depth of needles can be adjusted depending on the severity of the scar, to restore even complexion on the face.

In partnership with Skin Technique, I had the opportunity to bring my loved one in to receive his first ever microneedling treatment with Dr. Pavlou.

The beautiful new space in Yaletown offers a menu of medical aesthetics and Dr. Pavlou is known for his expertise in providing natural results. The treatment was about 1.5 hours and that included waiting for the topical numbing cream to kick in. The recovery time was 3 days and you definitely see improved skin texture within a week – his skin was softer and more even. Most importantly, this treatment really helped with fading his scars.

This is only one treatment and there’s already an improvement, so I am excited to bring him back for another treatment.  Do we recommend this treatment? Yes, indeed.
